About Us

Did you know that Holy Ghost UCC and Trinity UCC have been serving their local

and surrounding communities since as early as 1843?!?

In the Fall of 1843, a group a German settlers came together to form the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Darmstadt, Illinois.  This was the only German church for many miles and settlers came from far and wide to gather and worship.  About 35 years later, in 1878, Biddleborn Evangelical Protestant Church was established in Biddleborn, Illinois.  Some of those that had been attending the church in Darmstadt began attending at Biddleborn because it was closer to their homes.  Four miles to walk or ride a horse was a lengthy commute in the mid-late 1800's.  Especially with little ones in tow.  As decades passed, and both churches continued to thrive, new means of transportation were invented which cut commute times greatly.  In February 1953, the decision was made within these congregations to become yoked; creating an alliance between them for the greater good and forward thinking.

Although both of these churches now have new names (Holy Ghost, Darmstadt; Trinity, Biddleborn), the commitment to God,  to each other, and to neighbor has only strengthened and grown for almost 180 years!  The mission and ministries of Holy Ghost and Trinity United Churches of Christ works from a place of deep faith, hope and love.  "The greatest of these is love."                    ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
